Tadeusz Szeligowski was a Polish composer , music professor, pianist, lawyer, and music organizer who lived from 1896 to 1963. He studied composition and law at the University of Warsaw and later at the Berlin Academy of Music. Szeligowski's works are characterized by a lyrical temperament and are considered to be representative of the Polish national style of composition. His compositions include operas, ballets, symphonies, concertos, and chamber music, as well as music for theater productions and film scores.
Some of Szeligowski's most notable works include "The Peacock and the Girl," which is considered by many to be his masterpiece, as well as his Sonata for Flute and Piano, a Sonatina for Piano, and numerous other works for various instruments. He was also a respected music writer who frequently wrote for journals.
Szeligowski was a member of several music organizations , including the Polish Composers' Union and the International Society for Contemporary Music. He was also a music professor at the State Higher School of Music in Kraków, where he taught composition for many years.
Szeligowski passed away on January 10, 1963, at the age of 66. Despite his relatively short life, he left a large body of work that continues to be studied and performed by musicians today.
