Sir Peter Maxwell Davies was an English composer , conductor, and teacher who was born on September 8, 1934, and passed away on March 14, 2016. He was celebrated as one of the most eminent post-war composers in the world and was known for his powerfully innovative music. Davies was also made Master of the Queen's Music in 2004 , an honorary position which involves providing music for state occasions, largely ceremonial in nature.
Davies' music was varied and included orchestral pieces, operas, and chamber music. He often drew inspiration from his Scottish heritage, incorporating elements of folk music into his compositions.
