Short bio Paul Hofhaimer
Full biography Paul Hofhaimer
Paul Hofhaimer was an Austrian composer, organist, and teacher who lived from 1459 to 1537. He was known for writing songs and setting poetry to classical music in the Western classical music tradition. Hofhaimer may have written most of his best songs between 1490 and 1510. He was also an accomplished organist and teacher, and his students included prominent musicians of the time.
Hofhaimer's letters that have survived suggest that he did not write fluent Latin like some of his colleagues, but he was nonetheless highly regarded as a composer and musician. In addition to his own compositions, Hofhaimer also inspired the work of other composers, like Hans Kotter, who studied under him.
Outside of his musical career, Hofhaimer's life is not well documented. However, he remains an important figure in the history of Western classical music, and his music continues to be performed and studied today.
