Luther Orlando Emerson (1820-1915) was an American composer , musician, and music publisher. He was born in Parsonsfield, Maine, USA. Emerson was a prominent figure in the music industry during the 19th century and was well-known for his contributions to hymnology. He attended the Boston Academy of Music and later became a professor of music at several institutions, including the Salem Normal School and the Boston Conservatory.
Emerson was a composer of both choral and instrumental music, and his works were widely performed during his lifetime. He also arranged and published numerous hymn tunes, including "We Are Coming, Father Abra'am" and "Now to Heaven Our Prayer Ascending". Emerson was also known for his work as a music publisher, and he founded his own publishing company, the L.O. Emerson Music Company, in Boston.
Emerson was a respected member of the musical community during his lifetime and served as the President of the American Guild of Organists and as the Director of Music at several prominent churches in Boston. He died in 1915 at the age of 95 in Boston, leaving behind a legacy of music that continues to be celebrated and performed today.
