Luigi Gatti was an Italian composer who lived from 1740 to 1817. He was born and raised in Milan, where he spent most of his life working as a composer and conductor.

Gatti was a prominent figure in the Milanese music scene during the late 1700s. He was heavily involved in the production of operas, and his works were regularly performed at the Teatro alla Scala, one of the most famous opera houses in the world.

Gatti's music was known for its lyricism and expressiveness. He often incorporated elements of the "Sturm und Drang" movement into his works, a style that emphasized intense emotion and drama. His operas were particularly notable for their beautiful melodies and intricate ensemble pieces.

Gatti's most famous work is his opera, "La contadina in corte", which premiered in Milan in 1774. The work was well received and was performed throughout Italy for several years. Other notable works by Gatti include "Il primo amore" and "L'inganno scoperto".

Despite his success as a composer, Gatti was also known for his eccentric behavior. He was said to have a hot temper and frequently clashed with his peers in the music community. However, his contributions to the world of Italian opera continue to be celebrated today, and his music remains an important part of the classical repertoire.
