Lucrezia Orsina Vizzana was a talented Italian composer and Benedictine nun of the 17th century. She was born in Bologna, Italy in 1590. Her parents were music lovers, and she grew up in an environment that nurtured her musical talents.

At the age of 16, Lucrezia joined the Benedictine convent of San Giovanni in Monte in Bologna, where she would live for the rest of her life. She became a nun, taking the name Sister Orsola, and devoted herself to composing music for the church.

Lucrezia's compositions were groundbreaking at the time. She was one of the first women in Europe to publish music under her own name. Her music was widely recognized and admired during her lifetime, and she had many patrons who supported her work.

Lucrezia specialized in sacred vocal music, writing motets, psalms, and hymns. Her compositions are characterized by their beauty, complexity, and emotional intensity. She was particularly renowned for her use of dissonance, which added depth and complexity to her music.
