Full biography Claude Vivier
Claude Vivier was a Canadian composer , pianist, poet and ethnomusicologist born on April 14, 1948 in Montreal. He died at the age of 35 violently in his Paris apartment on March 8, 1983. Despite his short life, he is considered by many to be one of the greatest composers Canada has produced.
Vivier began studying music in Montreal and later moved to Europe to study in Cologne, Germany. He was heavily influenced by his travels and experiences in various cultures and incorporated this into his compositions, which often featured mystical and transcendent themes.
Vivier wrote a wide range of works, including orchestral pieces, operas, vocal music, and chamber music. Notable works include "Lonely Child," "Bouchara," and the operas "Kopernikus" and "Marco Polo." His music was known for its complex and innovative harmonies and textures, and his approach to composition was highly individualistic.
Aside from his music, Vivier was known for his unconventional lifestyle and personal relationships. He identified as gay and much of his music explored themes of sexuality and intimate relationships.
Despite his early death, Vivier left a lasting legacy in the world of classical music. His music is still performed and studied today and continues to inspire new generations of composers and musicians.
