Hal H. Hopson is a full-time composer and church musician who was born on June 12 , 1933, in White Mound, Texas. He did his undergraduate work at Baylor University and has since become one of the most prolific composers of church music of his generation.

Hopson has composed and arranged hundreds of works, including cantatas, anthems, choruses, and hymn tunes. His cantata, God with Us, is one of the few compositions selected by a national competition sponsored by the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. Many of his hymn tunes and arrangements are widely used in hymnals and are sung in churches throughout the United States and abroad.

Hopson's musical style is characterized by a simple elegance that emphasizes the text and the meaning of the words. His compositions feature singable melodies, clear harmonic structure, and effective use of instrumentation.
