Claude Terrasse (1867-1923) was a French composer known for his operettas. He was born in Romorantin, France and began his musical studies at a young age. Terrasse worked as an accompanist and composer for Parisian cabarets and music halls before becoming successful in the world of musical theater. He is best known for his collaborations with librettist Albert Willemetz, with whom he created popular works such as "Passarola" and "Là-haut".

Terrasse's musical style was characterized by a lighthearted and catchy melody, with a touch of jazz influences that added a unique flavor to his works. He is also known for his use of ironic and satirical lyrics that often poked fun at the society of the time.

One of Terrasse's most notable works is his operetta "Ubu roi", for which he wrote the music to Alfred Jarry's play. Another well-known piece is "L'Ingru libertin" which was later adapted by Richard Strauss in his opera "Der Rosenkavalier".

Terrasse's personal life was also intertwined with the arts, as his sister André was married to the painter Pierre Bonnard. Terrasse himself passed away in 1923 from a heart attack at the age of 56.

Overall, Claude Terrasse was a highly influential composer in the world of French operetta, and his works continue to be performed and enjoyed today.
