Full biography Melchior Teschner
Melchior Teschner (1584-1635) was a German cantor, composer, and theologian who was born in Wschowa, Silesia (now in Poland). He attended the Gymnasium, a secondary school in Fraustadt, Silesia, and later studied at the University of Wittenberg. He eventually became a cantor at the Lutheran church in Fraustadt.
Teschner composed a number of hymns, many of which are still sung today, including "Valet will ich dir geben" and "Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern". One of his most famous compositions is the melody for the hymn "All glory, laud, and honor", known as ST. THEODULPH. This hymn is traditionally sung on Palm Sunday and was originally written in Latin by Theodulf of Orléans.
In addition to his work as a musician, Teschner was also a theologian and wrote several theological works, including "Libellus pius seu instructio pro infirmis" (A devout book or instruction for the sick) and "Exercitium pietatis quotidiana" (Daily exercise in piety).
Teschner died on December 1, 1635, in Oberpritschen, Silesia (now in Poland). His music continues to be sung and enjoyed by people around the world.
