Full biography Clarence Barlow
Composer Clarence Barlow (1945-2023) was a British composer of classical and electroacoustic works. Born and raised in what was then called Calcutta , India, Barlow wrote his first compositions at a young age. He later studied at the Royal Manchester College of Music and at the University of California, San Diego. Barlow was a pioneer in the field of computer music, and used computer algorithms and artificial intelligence to create complex and innovative compositions.
During his career, Barlow composed over 200 works, including orchestral works, chamber music, electroacoustic compositions, and works for solo instruments. His compositions were performed by leading orchestras and ensembles around the world, and he received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to contemporary music.
Barlow was also a respected scholar, and authored several books and articles on music theory and composition. He was the Corwin Endowed Chair and Head of Composition at the University of California , Santa Barbara at the time of his passing in June 2023.
