Short bio Alfred Koerppen
Full biography Alfred Koerppen
Alfred Koerppen was a German organist, music pedagogue, composer, and academic teacher. He was born on December 16, 1926, and passed away on July 5, 2022. He taught composition and music at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. As a composer, Koerppen took a unique approach to composition, focusing on the process of composition rather than the final product. He believed that the compositional process was just as important as the completed work of art, and wrote extensively on this topic.
Koerppen wrote for a variety of instruments, including the organ, violin, and orchestra, among others. His music was known for its unique harmonic language, often using dissonances and irregular meters. He also experimented with electronic music, incorporating recorded and synthesized sounds into his compositions.
In addition to his work as a composer, Koerppen was also a respected music educator. He taught at the Hannover Conservatory for several years, and many of his students went on to have successful careers in music. He was also widely respected as an organist, and performed throughout Germany and Europe.
Koerppen received several honors and awards in his lifetime, including the Order of Merit of Lower Saxony. He passed away on July 5, 2022, leaving behind a rich legacy of music and thought on the process of composition.
