Hans von Koessler (also known as János Köhler in Hungarian) was a Hungarian composer, conductor, and music teacher. He was born on March 15, 1853 in Szepesváralja, Hungary (now Spišská Belá, Slovakia) and died on February 7, 1926 in Budapest.

Koessler studied at the Budapest Academy of Music (now the Franz Liszt Academy of Music) with Ferenc Erkel and Mihály Mosonyi. Later, he studied in Berlin with Friedrich Kiel , where he met Hans von Bülow and Richard Strauss. After returning to Budapest, Koessler became a prominent figure in the Hungarian music scene.

Koessler's compositions include works for orchestra, chamber music, vocal music and operas. He was also a highly respected music teacher, and his pupils included some of Hungary's most famous composers such as Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, Ernst von Dohnányi, and Leo Weiner.

Koessler's music is often characterized by its lyricism, harmonic complexity, and use of Hungarian folk elements. He was also known for his advocacy of Richard Wagner's music and was one of the driving forces behind the establishment of the Hungarian Wagner Society.

Today, Koessler's music is not as well known outside of Hungary, but his influence on Hungarian music cannot be overstated. He was a highly respected figure in his time and his contributions to music through his compositions and teaching are still felt today.
