Albert de Rippe (c.1480-1551) was an Italian composer and lutenist. He was born in Mantua and is primarily known for his contribution to lute music. Very little is known about his life except that he lived and worked in France. Albert de Rippe's music is highly regarded for its sophisticated harmonies and elegant melodies.
He was one of the notable composers for lute during the Renaissance era, and his compositions were widely popular among musicians and the French nobility. His music was included in many collections of lute music printed in France, including those published by Adrian Le Roy and Robert Ballard.
Some of his well-known compositions include Fantasia XVIII, a work that showcases his virtuosic skills, and Chanson de la fontainne, which is a beautiful, lyrical piece. Albert de Rippe also wrote intabulations of vocal music by other composers, and his arrangements of Pierre Attaignant's chansons are highly regarded.
