Philipp Jakob Riotte (1776-1856) was a German composer who primarily lived in Vienna. He was born in St. Wendel, Saarland, and studied with Anton Andre. In the 1820s, his compositions were among the most frequently performed at the Theater an der Wien. His music was known for its clarity and expressiveness, and he often wrote for chamber and vocal ensembles. Among his most famous works are his Symphonies in C Major and D Major, and his Clarinet Concerto in C minor, which was written for the Russian clarinet virtuoso, Iwan Muller. Riotte died in Vienna in 1856 at the age of 80. Despite his contributions to classical music, he is relatively unknown today, and his music is rarely performed in contemporary concert programs.
