Full biography Alan Ridout
Alan Ridout (9 December 1934 - 19 March 1996) was a British composer and teacher. He was born in West Wickham, Greater London and studied briefly at Guildhall School of Music before receiving instruction from composer Lennox Berkeley.
Ridout's music is mostly tonal and often incorporates elements of humor and playfulness. He composed for a wide range of instruments and ensembles, including orchestra, choir, chamber ensemble, and solo instruments. One of his best-known works is "Ferdinand the Bull", a musical adaptation of the children's book of the same name.
In addition to his work as a composer, Ridout was also a dedicated music educator. He taught at the Canterbury Cathedral Choir School and later at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he mentored many aspiring musicians and composers.
Ridout was highly respected in the music world for his craftsmanship and originality. His music is still performed today and continues to inspire new generations of musicians and composers.
