What is the treble clef? The treble clef is a tool musicians use to notate pitches above middle C on the piano. The treble clef is also known as G clef because it describes the location of G, specifically the G above middle C, or G4. We learn treble clef so we know how to read sheet music faster and easier.

Treble Clef Spaces The fourth space is for the note “E5”. The numbers such as 4 and 5 are used to reference which octave the notes are sounded in. The number 4 is used for the octave beginning with middle C, the number 5 is used for the octave above (beginning on the 3rd space of the staff).

A five indicates that we're not dealing with a major or a minor chord, but with a power chord. So 'G5' is a G power chord. D5 is a D power chord.

A power chord is made of two different notes. The number 5 is used to indicate a power chord because the chord contains the 1st (root) and 5th notes of a major scale.
