1. Night music; a Classical instrumental genre that combines elements of chamber music and symphonic music. The serenade is often performed in the evening or at social functions and is related to the divertimento and the cassation.

2. A love song sung at night, performed out-of-doors for a specific individual (such as a member of a royal family). As opposed to a aubade which is played in the morning.
