Melody. We might consider melody to be the single most important element within a song. In everyday language, this is the element we call 'the tune'. In technical terms, however, the melody is a series of pitches, or notes, that are organised to form a shape or pattern.

Chorus. The chorus should convey the main idea of the song with the most memorable melody of the song. It usually repeats itself melodically, musically, and/or lyrically - this method is sometimes called the hook, which some people use synonymously with chorus.

You now know that a staff is a graphical system used to read notes with five lines and four spaces. These lines and spaces house the notes of the musical alphabet: A, B, C, D, E, F and G. The treble clef symbol looks like this and signifies medium to high pitches being read on the staff.

Lines give us the backbone of each note, they tell musicians how loud or soft to play, they illustrate the shape of musical phrases, and they give information about how different instruments relate to one another. To play from a piece of sheet music, you need to read all of these lines together and all at once.

A group of beats can be collated into what we call a bar.

Most pop songs are around 80 bars long and are divided into various sections, each of which is usually 8 or multiples of 8 bars long. These sections are generally labelled alphabetically or given names (like 'verse 1′) for convenience. Naming similar sections makes the structure easy to see.

The different styles of music are art music, folk music, and popular music. Within these broad categories, styles include Western art music, rock, and jazz. Within these styles, even more specific styles can be distinguished, such as progressive rock and punk rock.
