Short bio Zacara da Teramo
Full biography Zacara da Teramo
Zacara da Teramo was an Italian composer of the 14th century, born in Teramo in the Abruzzo region in central Italy. He is known for his secular compositions, especially his ballatas and madrigals which were popular in Italy during the late 14th and early 15th centuries.
Zacara da Teramo may have been a student of Francesco Landini in Florence, as his music reflects Landini's melodic style, particularly in his ballatas. He also served as the maestro di cappella of the church of San Giovanni in Teramo in the early 1400s.
Zacara da Teramo's music is characterized by lyrical melodies, ornamental flourishes, and lively rhythms. His ballatas often feature charming and playful texts, while his madrigals explore more complex harmonies and vocal textures.
Some of his most famous works include the ballatas "Rosa fresca aulentissima" and "Io mi son giovinetta," as well as the madrigal "Fons totius superbie."
Despite his popularity during his lifetime, Zacara da Teramo's music fell into obscurity during the Renaissance, and it wasn't until the late 20th century that his works were rediscovered and performed again.
Today, Zacara da Teramo is celebrated as one of the most important composers of the early Italian Renaissance, and his music continues to inspire performers and audiences alike.
