Jan Zach (1699-1773) was a Czech composer, organist, and pedagogue of the Baroque era. He was born in the town of Nová Cerekev in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic.

Zach was educated at the Jesuit Gymnasium in Jindřichův Hradec and later at Charles University in Prague, where he studied theology and philosophy. During this time, he also studied music and became an organist at various churches in Prague.

In 1723, Zach traveled to Dresden to study with Johann Georg Pisendel, the concertmaster of the Dresden court orchestra. He also studied with Johann Sebastian Bach in Leipzig.

Zach served as court musician and organist in several cities, including Prague and Dresden. He wrote numerous compositions, including symphonies, concertos, sonatas, and sacred music. His music is known for its combination of Bohemian and German styles, and his use of Baroque counterpoint and orchestration.

In addition to his musical career, Zach was also a respected music educator. He taught at the Piarist Gymnasium in Prague, where he trained several notable composers, including Josef Mysliveček and Jan Křtitel Vaňhal.

Zach's music was widely performed during his lifetime, but it fell into obscurity after his death. However, his works have been rediscovered in recent years and are now recognized as important contributions to the Baroque repertoire.
