Born on September 12, 1959, in Tokyo, Japan, Nomi started his musical career in the 1980s. He first became known as a composer for "The Ultraman" television series in 1981. He then went on to compose music for numerous other anime series, including "Mahou no Princess Minky Momo," "Robotech II: The Sentinels," and "Kiteretsu Daihyakka."

One of Nomi's most significant works was his composition for the science fiction anime film "Lensman" (1984). The movie was based on the book series by E.E Smith, and Nomi's music perfectly captured the epic and futuristic feel of the story.
