Yehezkel Braun was a renowned Israeli composer, known for his significant contribution to the Israeli music scene. He was born in Breslau, Germany on May 22, 1922, and grew up in a family of musicians. In 1933, when the Nazi party rose to power, his family had to flee Germany and settled in Palestine, where they were able to continue their musical lives.
Braun studied music at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, and later earned a Master's Degree in Musicology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His work as a composer was characterized by a combination of Western classical music and Jewish music influences.
He composed over 600 works of music, including symphonies, chamber music, vocal music, and operas. He also wrote numerous scores for theater productions, television shows, and films. His music was often performed by the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, and he was regarded as one of the most significant composers in Israel's history.
Braun was awarded several honors for his work, including the Israel Prize for Music in 2012 and a lifetime achievement award from the Association of Composers and Songwriters in Israel. He passed away on October 6, 2014, at the age of 92. His legacy remains in his extensive and diverse body of work, which continues to inspire and move audiences worldwide.
