William Richard Bexfield was an English composer born on April 27, 1824, in Norwich. He was known for his oratorio "Israel Restored" and was an accomplished composer and organist. Bexfield gave concerts of his music in Japan and later in the US , where he played his first solo recital in New York City in 1850. He died on October 28, 1853, at the young age of 29.
Bexfield's musical contributions were significant despite his short life. He was also known for his work as a pedagogue and music writer, having written "Preparing for the Organ" among other works. Bexfield's music was also featured in the two-volume collection "British Musical Biography: A Dictionary of Musical Artists, Authors, and Composers Born in Britain and Its Colonies."
Bexfield's compositions were mostly for the organ, including his "Fantasia and Fugue on the Old 81st" and his fugues collection. He was also known for his hymns, including "Give Me Kind Heaven."
