Frank Michael Beyer was a German composer born on March 8, 1928. He studied at the Musikhochschule in Leipzig from 1946 to 1950, and later at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Berlin from 1950 to 1955. He was also a student of Hanns Eisler, one of the most influential composers of the 20th century.

Beyer's music was heavily influenced by the political climate of East Germany. He was known for his use of folk music and his incorporation of socialist themes into his compositions. Many of his works were composed for the stage or for film productions, reflecting his interest in the intersection of music and other forms of art.

In addition to his work as a composer, Beyer was also a respected teacher. He taught composition at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin from 1975 until his retirement in 1992. His students included many respected composers such as Thomas Larcher and Iris ter Schiphorst.

Despite his ties to East Germany and the socialist movement, Beyer's music has continued to be performed and recorded by musicians around the world. Some of his most famous works include Notte di Pasqua, which was composed for viola and orchestra, and a setting of the Requiem Mass. Frank Michael Beyer passed away on August 1, 2008, leaving behind a legacy of innovative and politically engaged music.
