William P. Perry (1930-2021) was an American composer and producer of music for television, film, and theater. He was born in Elmira, New York and attended Harvard University where he studied with renowned composer Paul Hindemith.
After completing his studies, Perry began his career in the advertising industry as a composer and script writer for the J. Walter Thompson agency. He later transitioned to television production, working with icons such as Arthur Godfrey and Ed Sullivan.
Throughout his career, Perry composed music for a wide variety of projects, including symphonies performed by the Chicago and St. Louis Symphony Orchestras, as well as numerous film and television scores. Some of his notable works include his score for the 1925 Charlie Chaplin film "The Gold Rush" and his trumpet concerto.
In addition to his work as a composer, Perry was also a respected producer and author. He produced the Broadway musical "Laughter on the 23rd Floor" starring Nathan Lane and co-authored the book "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Electronic Music."
Throughout his lifetime, Perry was recognized for his contributions to the music industry, receiving numerous awards and honors. He passed away on April 25, 2021 at the age of 90.
