Full biography William Brade
William Brade (1560 – 26 February 1630) was an English composer , violinist, and viol player who is known for his contributions to early Baroque music. After settling in Germany around 1590, he became an important figure in the music scene of Hamburg. He was the first Englishman to write a canzona , an Italian form of music, and is probably the first to write a piece for solo violin.
Brade's music is characterized by a lyrical and expressive style , which was innovative for his time. He was a prolific composer and wrote a significant amount of music, including sonatas, dances, and canzonas. His works were played not only in Germany but also in England and Scandinavia, where they were highly regarded.
Brade was also an accomplished performer on the violin and viol, and his musical skills earned him several prestigious appointments, including that of Kapellmeister of the Hamburg city council. He was known to have collaborated with other notable composers of his time, such as Johann Schop and Jacob Praetorius.
