In his early professional career, Blodek worked as a music critic for several Czech daily newspapers.
Blodek's works are characterized by their romantic style and Czech nationalistic themes. Some of his most popular compositions include the operas 'V studni' and 'Sarka', which were both performed at the National Theatre in Prague. His compositions were instrumental in promoting Czech music, especially among the Czech-speaking population.
