Short bio Viktor Kosenko
Full biography Viktor Kosenko
Viktor Stepanovych Kosenko (1896-1938) was a Ukrainian composer , pianist, and educator. He composed about 250 works in various genres , including symphonies, chamber music, choral works, and more. However, he is best known for his piano music, which may be considered post-romantic, highly emotional, and technically demanding. His music combines elements of Ukrainian folk music, classical music, and modernist trends.
During his studies, Kosenko wrote poems, preludes, and mazurkas for piano. He became interested in Ukrainian folk music and began to integrate it into his compositions. He also studied with some of the leading composers of his time, such as Mykola Lysenko and Reinhold Glière, and was highly respected by his fellow musicians.
Kosenko's life and career were cut short by his untimely death at the age of 41. He faced significant challenges in his life, including the upheavals of World War I, the Russian Revolution, and the Stalinist repression of the arts in the 1930s. Nevertheless, his music has endured and continues to be recognized for its beauty, emotional depth, and technical mastery.
Today, Viktor Kosenko is considered one of Ukraine's most important composers, and his music is studied and performed by musicians around the world. Several recordings of his works are available, including his piano music, which is often performed in concerts and competitions.
