Tuotilo was a medieval composer, poet and theologian who lived in the 9th century. He was also a Benedictine monk at the Saint Gall Abbey in Switzerland. Tuotilo is known for his important contributions to the development of Western music during the Carolingian era of the early Middle Ages.

He is credited with composing several liturgical hymns and sequences, such as the famous "Ut Queant Laxis", which served as the basis for the medieval solfeggio system, and the sequence "Victimae Paschali Laudes", which is still sung in Catholic churches during the Easter season.

Tuotilo also wrote numerous poems and theological works. He is particularly known for his mystical writings, which emphasize the importance of spiritual contemplation and inner reflection as a means of reaching a deeper understanding of God.

Tuotilo's musical and poetic works were highly praised by his contemporaries and later generations of scholars. His influence on the development of Western music is still felt today, and his music has been performed and recorded by numerous modern ensembles and choirs.
