Short bio Tommaso Giordani
Full biography Tommaso Giordani
Tommaso Giordani was an Italian composer who lived from approximately 1730 to 1806. He was particularly active in England and Ireland during his career. Giordani was born in Naples, Italy, and was the older of two sons. He is believed to have received his early musical education in Dublin, Ireland, with his father and with the Italian composer Tommaso Giordani ).
Giordani wrote more than 50 English and Irish songs during his career, including songs for Richard Brinsley Sheridan's play "The Critic." He was an important part of Irish music circles during his time, and his works had a significant impact on the music of the time.
Despite his contributions to music during his lifetime, Giordani's legacy has been somewhat muddled. It was long believed that he wrote the famous song "Caro mio ben," but recent scholarship suggests that it may have actually been composed by his brother, Giuseppe Giordani.
Today, Tommaso Giordani's music is still studied and performed, particularly in Ireland and the United Kingdom. His works continue to be valued for their contributions to the music of the time, and for their lasting influence on the development of classical music as a whole.
