Todor Skalovski was a notable Macedonian composer born on August 1st, 1909, in Skopje. His father was a conductor and organist, and he inherited his musical talents from him. Skalovski studied at several music schools in Skopje, Belgrade, and Zagreb. He later became a professor of composition at the Faculty of Music in Skopje.

Skalovski composed a variety of works, including symphonies, chamber music, and vocal music. He is best known for his opera "Goce," which premiered in 1953 and is considered a masterpiece of Macedonian opera. The opera is based on the life of Macedonian revolutionary Yane Sandanski.

Besides his music compositions, Skalovski was also a music teacher, conductor, and cultural activist. He played a crucial role in the establishment of the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra in 1944, and he served as the director of the orchestra for many years. He also founded the Macedonian Opera and Ballet in 1947.

Skalovski received many awards and recognitions during his career, including the People's Artist of Yugoslavia award in 1967. He is considered one of the most significant figures in Macedonian classical music and is remembered for his contributions to music education and cultural development in Macedonia.
