Thorvald Aagaard (8 June 1877 - 22 March 1937) was a Danish composer , organist, and college teacher. He is known for his work in the field of choral music and wrote music for several continually popular songs , such as "Spurven sidder stum bag kvist" ("The Sparrow Sits Silent Behind the Branches"). Along with his colleagues Thomas Laub , Oluf Ring, and Carl Nielsen, he is considered one of the most prominent composers of his time in Denmark.

Aagaard was born in Rolsted, Faaborg-Midtfyn, and began his career as a church musician. He later became a professor of organ and music theory at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. He was a prolific composer, with over 300 works to his name, many of which are choral pieces that remain popular in Denmark to this day. Aagaard also wrote several operas and orchestral works.

Aagaard's music is often characterized by his use of traditional Danish folk melodies and themes, which he incorporated into his compositions to create a distinctive sound. His work has had a significant impact on the development of Danish music, and his influence can be seen in the work of many later Danish composers.
