Thomas Chilcot (c. 1700-1766) was an English composer, known for his harpsichord concertos and keyboard music. He composed during the mid-18th century, at a time when the trend was reversing from the sacred to the secular, with instrumental music and the sonata form gaining popularity. Chilcot was one of the pioneers in the creation of the three-movement harpsichord concerto format, which was later followed by other composers.

Chilcot's works were mainly written for harpsichord instead of the organ, and his pieces contain a good deal of brilliant solo writing in a forward-looking style. His compositions are marked by buoyancy, vitality, and a sense of adventure over what was conventionally acceptable music.

His works generally feature the three-movement Vivaldi pattern, with virtuosic solos that appeal to the ear. Some of his most notable publications include the twelve harpsichord concertos, which demonstrate the composer's flair for the keyboard, and his sonatas for the harpsichord, such as the Suite in D and the Sonata in E.

Thomas Linley was an English bass and musician active before becoming Chilcot's apprentice , and Linley had initially assisted Chilcot. Chilcot served as an influence on Linley regarding music composition, and Linley went on to become a known composer himself.

Despite his achievements, Chilcot has been relatively neglected, and his works have not been widely performed. However, his contribution to the establishment of the harpsichord concerto form is significant, and his legacy continues to inspire and shape the development of music today.
