Thomas Ashwell was an English composer who lived during the Renaissance period in England, around the late fifteenth and early sixteenth century. Ashwell is considered to be one of the most important English composers of his time.

Ashwell's music was known for its intricate melodies, complex harmonies and rich polyphonic textures. He was particularly skilled at writing choral music, and much of his surviving music is in the form of masses, motets and hymns. Some of his best-known works include his Missa Ave Maria and the hymn "Wolcum, Yole, Thou Mery Man".

One interesting fact about Ashwell is that he may have been a member of the Chapel Royal, which was the official musical establishment of the English monarch. This would have given him access to some of the most important musical resources in England at the time, and would have allowed him to work with some of the other great composers of his day.

Despite his skill and importance as a composer, relatively little is known about Ashwell's life. Some historians believe that he may have had connections to the town of Ashwell in Hertfordshire, England, but this remains uncertain.

Today, Ashwell's music is still performed and appreciated by music lovers and scholars alike, and he is remembered as one of the most important composers of the English Renaissance.
