Theophile Ysaye was a prominent composer born in Belgium in 1865. He was a member of the famed Ysaye family of musicians, which included his uncle Eugene Ysaye, one of the greatest violinists of his time. Theophile Ysaye began his musical career as a violinist, studying at the Brussels Conservatory under the guidance of Hubert Léonard.

Despite his success as a violinist, Ysaye later turned his attention to composition and quickly gained recognition in that area as well. He won several prestigious awards, including the Belgian Prix de Rome in 1902, which allowed him to study in Italy.
