Full biography Samuel Wesley
Samuel Wesley was an English composer and organist who lived from 1766 to 1837. He was the grandson of Samuel Wesley, a notable poet and churchman, and the nephew of John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement. Samuel Wesley showed a great musical talent from a young age and began to study music seriously when he was sent to the city of Bath to live with his brother.
As a composer, Samuel Wesley was particularly interested in the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, and he helped to introduce this music to England. He was also influenced by the works of Haydn and Mozart, and his compositions reflect elements of both the Baroque and Classical periods.
Samuel Wesley wrote a great deal of sacred music, including many anthems and hymns for use in the Church of England. He also wrote music for the theater, and his opera "The Siege of Gibraltar" was well-received by audiences at the time.
Overall, Samuel Wesley was an important figure in English music during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and his contributions to sacred music in particular are still celebrated today.
