Samuel Sebastian Wesley was an English composer and organist who lived from 1810 to 1876. He was born in London to a family of musicians; his father was composer Samuel Wesley, and his grandfather was Charles Wesley, a famous hymn writer and co-founder of Methodism.

Wesley was a prolific composer of church music, and he is considered one of the greatest composers of his day. He wrote many anthems, hymn tunes, and other works for the Anglican Church. He is also known for introducing the music of J.S. Bach into England, which had a significant impact on English church music.

Wesley was a skilled organist, and he held many prestigious positions in England, including being the organist at Hereford Cathedral and later at Exeter Cathedral. He was also a professor of music at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Among his notable works are "Thou Wilt Keep Him in Perfect Peace," "Wash Me Throughly," and "Lead Me , Lord." Wesley was respected by his contemporaries and was considered one of the most distinguished English church musicians of his time.

Wesley was married to Mary Anne Merewether , and they had six children. Wesley passed away in Gloucester, England in 1876 at the age of 65, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful music that is still enjoyed and admired by many today.
