He was the youngest son of the famous hymn-writer Charles Wesley, who was one of the founders of the Methodist Church. Charles Wesley Junior received his musical education from his father, who was a highly accomplished musician and composer.

Charles Wesley Junior's musical career began when he was appointed as the organist at the Gloucester Cathedral in 1779, where he remained until his death in 1834. During his time as an organist, Wesley composed a large number of hymns and anthems, many of which are still sung in churches around the world.

One of the most famous hymns composed by Charles Wesley Junior is "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," which he wrote in 1739. The hymn is now considered a classic of Christmas music and has been recorded by numerous artists in various styles.
