Full biography Samuel Adler
Samuel Adler is an American composer, conductor, author, and professor, born on March 4, 1928. He has had an illustrious career that spans more than six decades, during which he has contributed greatly to the world of classical music.
Adler began his musical education at the Eastman School of Music, where he studied composition with Bernard Rogers and conducting with Herbert von Karajan. He went on to earn a Master's degree in Music from the University of Michigan, where he studied composition with Ross Lee Finney. Adler later studied conducting with Jean Morel at the Juilliard School in New York City.
In addition to composing over 400 published works, Samuel Adler has also written several books on music, including "The Study of Orchestration," which is widely used in music schools around the world. He was also a professor of music at several prestigious institutions, including Eastman School of Music, Juilliard School, and the University of North Texas.
Adler's music is characterized by his use of traditional tonality, combined with modern techniques and harmonies. He has composed in a variety of genres, including orchestral works, chamber music, choral works, and opera. Many of his works have been commissioned by major orchestras and ensembles around the world.
Adler has received numerous awards and honors, including the Aaron Copland Award in Composition, the Charles Ives Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. He was also inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame in 2008.
