Anton Cajetan Adlgasser (1729-1777) was a German composer and musician of the classical era. He was born in Inzell, Upper Bavaria, and received his musical education from his father, who was a choirmaster and organist. Adlgasser himself became a skilled organist and composer, and he eventually served as the first organist at the Salzburg Cathedral.

Adlgasser was known for his sacred choral music, and many of his compositions were used in Salzburg Cathedral during the time he served as its organist. He also wrote several operas and instrumental works, though many of these have unfortunately been lost over time.

One of Adlgasser's most notable works is the oratorio "Die sieben Worte Jesu Christi am Kreuz" (The Seven Words of Jesus Christ on the Cross), which was first performed in Salzburg in 1767. This oratorio was highly praised for its dramatic and emotional power, and it became a popular work throughout Europe in the late 18th century.

In addition to his musical career, Adlgasser was also involved in the administration of Salzburg Cathedral, serving as its archivist and treasurer for many years. He was known for his financial acumen, and he helped to modernize the cathedral's financial systems during his tenure.

Despite his many achievements, Adlgasser's music is not as well-known today as that of some of his contemporaries, such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Michael Haydn. However, his compositions are still played and recorded by choral groups and musicians today, and they continue to be appreciated for their beauty and emotional power.
