Robert Carl (born 1954) is an American composer, writer, and professor of composition at The Hartt School of the University of Hartford. He studied composition with Jonathan Kramer , George Rochberg, Ralph Shapey, and Iannis Xenakis. His music is performed throughout the US and abroad by orchestras , chamber ensembles, and soloists, including the Pittsburgh Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, New World Symphony, and the Arditti String Quartet.
As a composer, he is known for his expressive and inventive compositions that often explore the boundaries between musical genres and incorporate inspiration from a wide range of cultural and historical sources. Some of his best-known works include "The Land Unknown," "Sinfonia," and "Three Uncertainties."
