Ramiro Cortes Jr. (1933-1984) was an American composer and educator known for his contributions to classical music. Born in Dallas, Texas, Cortes studied at the University of California at Berkeley and later pursued his graduate studies at Princeton University. He also studied privately with several well-known composers, including Aaron Copland, Mario Davidovsky, Edward Levy, and Roger Sessions.

Cortes's works were recognized internationally, and his compositions were performed by various orchestras and ensembles in the United States and abroad. He was known for his unique musical style, which blended traditional classical elements with modern techniques.

In addition to his musical career, Cortes was also an accomplished educator. He taught at several universities, including the University of California at Berkeley, San Francisco State University, and Dominican College. He also served as a composer-in-residence at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Cortes's contributions to classical music were celebrated during his lifetime, and he received several awards and recognitions for his work. He was a recipient of the BMI Student Composers Prize, and his works were featured in several music festivals, including the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan.

Sadly, Cortes passed away in 1984 at the age of 51. His legacy, however, lives on through his music, which continues to be performed and celebrated to this day.
