Pierre Capdevielle was a French conductor and composer born on October 18, 1906, in Bordeaux, France, and died on April 14, 1969. He studied under Louis Aubert and Charles Munch at the Paris Conservatoire de Musique, where he won several prizes. Capdevielle was known for his works as a composer in the 20th century, including his Double Violin Concerto in D Minor , which was recorded live and has become a popular piece among classical music enthusiasts.

Apart from his compositions, Capdevielle was also a renowned conductor who worked with several orchestras such as the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre Symphonique de la Radiodiffusion Nationale, and the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, among others. He premiered several works by contemporary French composers, and his interpretations of works by Wagner, Ravel, and Debussy were hailed as some of the best.

Capdevielle was also recognized as a music educator, and he served as a professor of composition and orchestration at the Paris Conservatoire from 1950 to 1968. He had notable students such as Marc Bélair, Jean-Paul Holstein, and Michael Levinas.

Although Capdevielle was not as prolific as other composers of his time, his contributions to French classical music were significant. His works were often described as lyrical and imbued with expressiveness, revealing his deep appreciation for romanticism and impressionism. Capdevielle's legacy continues to live through the recordings of his music, which have been celebrated for their beauty and emotional depth.
