Short bio Peter Winter
Full biography Peter Winter
Peter Winter was a German violinist, conductor and composer who lived from 1754 to 1825. He is known for his contributions to opera, having composed a number of works in this genre. In addition to his work as a composer, Winter was also an accomplished violinist and conductor.
Winter began his music career in his teens as a violinist in the Munich Court Orchestra. He later studied composition with Johann Baptist Christoph Krammer, an Austrian composer and conductor. Winter's early works were mainly instrumental, but he soon turned his attention to opera, and most of his later works were in this genre.
One of Winter's most famous works is the opera "Das Labyrinth," which premiered in 1798, several years after the death of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Winter is sometimes mistakenly credited with having composed "Das Labyrinth" during Mozart's lifetime, but this is not the case. Winter did, however, revise the work for a new production in 1820.
Despite his contributions to the world of opera, Winter's music is not as widely performed today as some other composers from his time period. Nonetheless, his work is still appreciated by many music lovers and historians.
