Peter Sprague is an American jazz guitarist, record producer, and audio engineer, born on October 11, 1955. He is known for his excellence as a musician and has been recognized by fellow musicians as one of the best jazz guitarists of his generation. Sprague began playing the guitar when he was 12 years old and was heavily influenced by jazz legends like Wes Montgomery and Jim Hall. He started performing around San Diego and, in 1976, he moved to Boston to study music at the Berklee College of Music.
In addition to his career as a musician, Peter Sprague has also distinguished himself as a composer. He is the main composer for the Peter Sprague String Consort, a group he formed in 1979. This group has released many albums, including "Passion Flower," "The Wild Blue," and "Planet Cole Porter." His compositions have also been recorded by other jazz musicians, and a number of his songs have been transcribed and published.
Peter Sprague has also been very active in the San Diego music scene, teaching private lessons and gigs at Musician's Institute. He is the owner of SpragueLand Studios, where he produces recordings for his string consort and other artists. Besides, he has achieved awards such as San Diego Entertainer Magazine's Best of 1988 and Musician's Choice.
