He was the son of the composer and theorist Mateo Albniz, but he is not related to the more famous composer Isaac Albniz. Pedro Albeniz is considered to be one of the founders of the modern Spanish piano school.

Pedro Albeniz received his musical education from his father and Manuel Mendizbal. He was a prolific composer who wrote various works for the piano, including pieces for salon performances, dances, and exercises. He also wrote eight piano concertos that showcase his virtuosic piano technique. In his compositions, Pedro Albeniz combined aspects of the French piano school with the Spanish national style.
