Full biography P.Q.Phan

P.Q. Phan is a Vietnamese-American composer, well-known for his work in contemporary classical music. Born in 1947 in Da Lat, Vietnam, Phan relocated to the United States in 1966 to attend the Saint Louis Conservatory of Music. After earning his degrees in music, he embarked on a prolific career as a composer and educator.

Phan's compositions are known for blending elements of traditional Vietnamese music with modern Western classical techniques, resulting in a unique and innovative sound. His works include large-scale orchestral pieces, chamber music, vocal compositions, and stage productions. Some of his most famous compositions include "Beyond Borders," "Chrysopylae," and "Night of the Dragon."

In addition to his composing work, Phan has also been a dedicated music educator. He taught composition and theory at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music for over thirty years and has also held positions at The Boston Conservatory, Towson University, and Oberlin College.

Phan has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the Academy Award in Music from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and an honorary doctorate from the University of Missouri-St.Louis. He continues to compose and remains an influential figure in the world of contemporary classical music.
