Barrington Pheloung was an Australian-born composer, best known for his work in film and television. He was born in Manly, New South Wales in 1954, and later moved to England where he spent the majority of his career.

Pheloung was a versatile composer who worked across a range of genres and mediums. He first gained recognition for his work in theatre, composing the score for the stage play "On the Razzle" in 1981. However, he is perhaps best known for his work on the popular television series "Inspector Morse," which aired from 1987 to 2000. Pheloung composed the iconic theme music for the show, which is now synonymous with the character of Morse and the series as a whole.

In addition to his work on "Inspector Morse," Pheloung composed music for a number of other television shows and films. Some of his notable film scores include "Hilary and Jackie" (1998), which earned him a Golden Globe nomination, and "Hannibal" (2001). He also composed the scores for several other popular television shows, including "Lewis" and "Waking the Dead."

Pheloung was known for his unique style, which blended classical music with contemporary sounds and electronic instrumentation. He was a talented pianist and often incorporated piano solos into his compositions.
