Nilo Alcala is a celebrated Filipino-American composer born in Lucena City, Philippines, on February 23, 1978. He is best known for his choral compositions, with his pieces "Kaisa-isa Niyan" and "Kalatás sa Gubat" being standout works. Nilo Alcala studied at the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music, where he received his Bachelor's degree in Music Theory. He later received his Master's degree in Music Composition from the University of Southeastern Philippines.

Alcala's compositions have been performed by some of the world's leading choral groups, such as the Philippine Madrigal Singers, the Ateneo Chamber Singers, the San Francisco Choral Artists, and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. His music has been featured in festivals and concerts around the world, including the Dante Alighieri Siena Music Week in Italy, the International Choral Festival in Beijing, and the Manila Chamber Singers International Choral Festival.

Alcala has received numerous awards and recognition throughout his career. He was awarded the Gawad CCP Para Sa Sining (Cultural Center of the Philippines Award for the Arts) in 2010, and the Presser Foundation Award in 2014. He was also named New Artist of the Month by Musical America in September 2018. Alcala has served as a guest composer and clinician for music festivals and conferences worldwide, including the Singapore Youth Festival, ACDA Eastern Division Conference, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

In addition to his work as a composer, Nilo Alcala is also an educator. He has taught at various institutions, including the University of Philippines Diliman, and currently serves as an assistant professor at California State University, Northridge.
